Calais Maine Vacations Guide

By Laura - Freelance Writer - Article Added ( 09/07/2009 )

Located in Washington County, Calais is one of Maine’s northernmost towns and a great vacation spot. With a population under 4000 people, Calais is certainly no metropolis. However, it attracts thousands of tourists each year with its untamed natural beauty. Calais is the eighth busiest U.S.-Canadian border crossing, and is also home to the St. Croix River and Moosehorn Natural Wildlife Refuge. People come here to retreat from the chaos of the modern world and reflect on the beauty of nature. Calais is home to many independently owned businesses such as the Calais Bookshop and My Favorite Things. It is the perfect place to stop on the way to Canada or to plan a stress free vacation.

Things To Do And Places To Stay In Calais Maine:

Heslin's Motel & Dining Room:

Downeast Heritage Museum: A new $6 million, waterfront museum brings to life the stories, natural magic, life challenges and beautiful bounty of generations of Dowenast people and the place they call home.

Calais Maine is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. My husband and I go there every few years for a week in the summer. Absolutely gorgeous!
