An authentic Maine experience awaits in Grand Lake Stream Maine

Do you need to get away? Whether you were born and raised in Maine or you are from "away", Canal Side Cabins has just the place for you. An authentic Maine experience awaits in Grand Lake Stream, Maine - a small lakeside village, nestled in the woods, which has remained unchanged for generations.   Here at this year-round "sportsmen's (or sportswomen's!) paradise" you can fish along the three-mile long canal and salmon pool and hunt in the vast forestland of the Great Lake Stream region, among countless other outdoor adventures.

This area boasts over two dozen natural, good-sized lakes and vast timberlands as well as all types of fishing, hunting and recreational opportunities.  Set off on your own or take advantage of many different guided tours.  Owner John Arcaro is a Maine Master Registered Guide certified by the state of Maine and only selects local guides that are familiar with the lush terrain, which unquestionably sets Canal Side Cabins apart from other camps.

Grand Lake Stream is famous for some of the best fly-fishing for landlocked Atlantic salmon in the Northeast. There are numerous nearby lakes and rivers that contain smallmouth bass, brook trout, lake trout, and white perch. Non-resident fishing licenses and live bait are available on the premises. You have the opportunity to rent a boat or book a guided fly-fishing tour. Grand Lake Canoes, which are unique to our area of Maine, are used and equipment is provided on these trips.  These unforgettable experiences not only include fly-fishing and casting instruction, but a delicious shore dinner. For many this is the highlight of their trip!

The fishing does not have to stop in the autumn, as Canal Side Camps accommodate ice fishermen. No need to bring your equipment as we will provide that for you.  Our ice shack cabins are insulated and winterized to keep you toasty and comfortable. We also offer several other winter vacation packages which include cross-country skiing, winter camping, and snowmobiling, among many other options.

Hunt in more than a million acres of forestland in the Great Lake Stream region for upland birds including the ruffed grouse and woodcock, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and Maine black bear (when in season).  Enjoy the picturesque vistas of a DownEast autumn while hunting the game of your choice in a challenging wilderness setting.  Guided spring turkey hunts include a "run and gun" hunt in the early morning followed by fly-fishing for landlocked salmon and brook trout in the afternoon. Because of the sizable timber areas, interference from other hunters is often rare.

The actual cabins are located alongside the idyllic canal and salmon pool and date back to the late 1800s. There are a variety of cabins that sleep 2 to 7 people and our whole camp can hold up to 30 people. Each cabin includes the basics - fully equipped kitchen, dining and living rooms, bathrooms complete with bathtub and shower, DISH-network TV, propane grills, outdoor fire-pit and picnic tables for cookouts. Many of the cabins have extra perks such as a screened-in porch.  All cabins are very close to the lake, public beach, boat dock, and village store which provides a variety of food, fishing tackle and hunting equipment.

In addition to fishing, hunting, and the winter activities mentioned above the Grand Lake Stream region and its surrounding waters, trails, and wilderness offer canoeing, kayaking, hiking, ATV-ing, nature walking and more. Choose your own adventure -whether you are looking for the challenge of fishing and hunting or you need time to disconnect from your devices and commune with nature, you can have it all at Canal Side Cabins.  Prices start at a bargain of $45 per person per night. Contact us by phone - (207) 796-2796. Don't wait, book today!
