Taggart Construction Business Profile:
Taggart Construction is a general contractor specializing in energy efficient, environment friendly, occupant healthy building. Established in Freeport, Maine in 1994, Taggart Construction quickly defined the cutting edge of sustainable building in Maine. Our architect works with customers to create a home that incorporates green building practices based on the client's style and lifestyle. In addition to new construction, Taggart’s portfolio includes renovations, kitchen remodels and historic restoration. Our woodworking shop provides handcrafted architectural millwork, cabinetry and custom-designed furniture.
In 2005 Taggart Construction designed and built the first home in United States to achieve LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the nationally accepted benchmark of the U.S. Green Building Council for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Taggart Construction has built 3 LEED certified homes, and has received pre-certification for a Passive House (PassiveHaus). The Passive House concept represents today's highest energy standard with the promise of slashing the heating energy consumption of buildings by an amazing 90%. Homes built by Taggart Construction are also ENERGY STAR rated and have achieved the highest performance levels available in the ENERGY STAR Program. ENERGY STAR is a national, voluntary program sponsored and developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that promotes energy-efficient products and homes.
In addition to design/build work, Taggart Construction seeks to partner with design professionals interested in high performance green buildings. Participating as a team member during the design/development phase of a project is the best way to utilize Taggart's expertise in building science, energy systems, and green building techniques.
